What This Week Taught Me About Time, Love, and Death
I wasn’t sure if I was going to write anything about this, but I think I will. Most of you will have read about the Air India plane crash earlier this week. Before I continue, my heart goes out to all the families who lost loved ones in the crash. So many lives taken too soon.
I almost don’t have words for this. I also knew two of the people who passed away on that flight — Fiongal and Jamie. I met Fiongal for a coffee many years ago after we connected on Instagram. We were both in the same industry. Fiongal and Jamie were both extraordinary souls, doing deep collective healing work.
I had been following their journey through India on holiday and watched the loving video they made just before stepping onto the plane. From the outside at least, they seemed to be in the flow of life. Recently married, building a new house together, their business blooming, everything going well. And in the flicker of a moment, their souls were no longer with us in the earthly realm.
We simply don’t know when death will come.
I’m still processing the event, but here are some reflections from the past week:
We don’t know how much time we or our loved ones have. Say “I love you” while you can.
Don’t hold grudges.
Don’t wait to go on that holiday.
Don’t stress if everything on your to-do list didn’t get done.
Make the most of as many days as possible.
Practice gratitude.
Show yourself and others grace.
Want to say hi to someone at a bar or an event? Do it. What have you got to lose?
We overthink so much of life, creating unhelpful stories. Try to limit that.
Cast as little judgment as you can.
Embracing impermanence has always been, and always will be, my guiding principle.
Get on with what you want to do, in your own time. Don’t let others rush your timeline.
As it all continues to sink in, I’m sure I’ll have more to share.
