Spirituality with Both Feet on the Ground
Talking on the phone with a friend the other day, he said, "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."
Cosmically, we’re stepping into a time of political, social, and economic upheaval. We only need to turn on the news to see confirmation of it.
In spiritual circles, there’s often a tendency to “rise above” anything political or worldly. But in my experience, this sentiment tends to come from those in a certain position of privilege—those who may be among the last to feel the impact of what is already affecting more disadvantaged communities.
Healing, spirituality, and expansion are about shedding social conditioning, questioning dominant narratives, and offering alternative perspectives. But we must still remain rooted in the earthly realm. Harmful policies will still cause harm, no matter how much we might choose to disengage from them spiritually.
Another friend recently sent me an Instagram reel—someone performing exaggerated “spiritual hand gestures,” followed by someone else commenting: “When was the last time this person actually did community service?” It struck a chord.
Yes, there is real and valuable work to be done energetically. But it can’t stop there. Horrifying statistics—particularly about young people, and especially young men—keep showing up on my feed. It’s heartbreaking.
This week, I held a guided session for a group of young people, all of whom have spent time in care. It was powerful to be given the opportunity to guide them into a moment of calm and stillness—something I can only imagine they don’t often get to experience.
There is so much suffering in the world right now. One of my deepest missions in life is to help bring calm to all kinds of people.
Yes—bring meditation and calm into your own life. But don’t stop there. Take action. Use your voice. Support those with less. Healing isn’t just a personal journey—it’s also a collective one.
